Amazon StatCast has been a great idea to add into the MLB televised broadcasting as it gives fans what they want to see. StatCast was launched for the first time in the 2014 World Series between the Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants. StatCast Offers a lot of different metrics that the fans can see on TV. It seems to me tha StatCast has brought some life back into baseball when watching on TV. Now yes there’s other things that need to be fixed and taken care of, but this is a start in the right direction. StatCast measures defense, offense and pitching. For defense, we typically see on TV how fast the player was running, the route efficiency to the ball, the play probability and the velocity of the ball thrown. For hitting, we typically see exit velocity, launch angle and how far the ball traveled off the bat. For pitching we typically see spin rate, velocity of the pitch and perceived velocity of said pitch. Now I think StatCast has taken away some aspects of the game from a hitters perspective, seeing that the overall average batting average has dropped off significantly, where players are just trying to put the ball into the air instead of just putting it in play. Anyways, I would like to hear your thoughts on whether or not StatCast is good for the game of baseball.
